I discuss two of the most unusual quasars discovered by the SDSS to date. SDSS J1136+0242 shows only Lyα emission. Its narrow linewidth, strong 2-photon emission and red continuum denote emission from a low-density, low-metallicity yet dusty narrow-line region along our line of sight to a strong UV continuum source. Why we do not also see broad lines remains a mystery --- perhaps the broad-line region emission has thermalized at very high densities. SDSS J0952+0114 shows broad metal-line emission but only narrow Lyα emission. A combination of BLR conditions including an unusual illuminating SED, anisotropic emission, a high density and transient dust may be needed to explain this object.
