Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 Galaxies (NLS1s), at first a rare subclass of Seyfert galaxies, are now recognized to have extreme properties at visible and X-ray wavelengths that make them important for understanding the AGN phenomenon. Heretofore, however, most NLS1s have been heterogeneously selected, or found to be NLS1s after discovery as ultrasoft X-ray sources. The SDSS offers a unique opportunity to create a definitive and homogeneous sample of optically-selected NLS1s. I will briefly review the relevant physical properties of NLS1s and describe what we learned from 150 NLS1s found in the SDSS EDR, and followup work that would be enabled by the full SDSS.
