The extent to which extrapolation methods can be used to reconstruct the magnetic field structure of an active region is discussed. A map of the total field vector of sunspot group No. 135, obtained on June 24, 1984, was used. Measurements were made in the Fe I 525.02 nm line with a spatial resolution of 4 x 4 arcsec. It is suggested that electromagnetic force plays an important role in the sunspot pressure balance.
