The transfer of polarized light in a homogeneous plane-parallel medium containing fully oriented highly elongated particles (infinite cylinders) during the incidence of external linearly polarized radiation perpendicular to the direction of particle orientation is discussed. It is shown that this scattering problem is two-dimensional in terms of geometry; the vector transfer equation splits into two independent two-dimensional scalar transfer equations which admit a rigorous analytical solution. The basic equations and formulas are presented for a semiinfinite medium.
