The energy of the first level above the proton threshold in 18F has been determined to be 5672.57+/-0.32 keV by γ-ray measurements using the 14N(α,γ)18F reaction. The change in the excitation energy of this level previously measured at 5668+/-2 keV affects significantly the calculated reaction rate for 17O destruction during hydrogen burning in stars.
