The authors show that during the present part of the Uranian year the smooth nightside radio emission is controlled by the sweeping of the terminator across the northern magnetic polar region. The sweeping precipitates electrons into the radio source conjugate north pole and forms the free energy source with an enhanced high pitch angle component. The distribution drives the smooth emissions by means of the cyclotron maser instability above the south magnetic pole region. The clocklike nature of the emissions is consistent with terminator control, since it is tied to the Uranus rotation period. The prediction of Curtis (1985) of the nightside emissions' dominance of Uranus is confirmed by this study.
