Venus Atmosphere: Circulation
Scientific paper
The phenomenon of superrotation and some features of the thermal regime of Venus' atmosphere are explained by the phenomenon of negative viscosity, i.e., the transfer of kinetic energy from small to large large-scale horizontal turbulent eddies, which appear when the Hadley cell formed in the region of the maximum absorption of solar radiation at altitudes of 55 - 65 km becomes unstable. The vertical and horizontal coefficients of turbulent viscosity are estimated using the equation of entropy balance.
