The "pressure" borne by a star S proposed for HIPPARCOS is the quotient of the sum of target-times for stars with a better priority than S in a neighbourhood of S by the available observing time in this neighbourhood. Although rather crude, this concept proved to be very useful for refined simulations and to prepare programs of ground-observations.
