We study an exactly solvable model describing a stripe consisting of a Toda
array of $N$ anharmonic elastic chains sandwiched between two conducting
chains. It is shown that the presence of a charge on one chain generates a
gapless excitation branch (Luttinger liquid) on the other and leads to increase
in the phonon frequencies.
