We have successfully synthesized three new S = 1/2 kagome antiferromagnets MCu3(OH)6Cl2 (M = Ni, Co and Cd) and ZnCu3(OH)6Cl2 by a dynamic hydrothermal method. Structural refinement shows that the new compounds have the similar crystal structure to that of ZnCu3(OH)6Cl2 and preserve the original crystal symmetry of R-3m, thus they can be regarded as the new members in the family of S = 1/2 2D geometric frustrated spin systems. And the accurate contents of M ions are also determined by the refinement. Magnetization measurements reveal a kink under zero-field-cooling (ZFC) (or a splitting between field-cooling (FC) and ZFC) in MCu3(OH)6Cl2 (M = Ni, Co and Cd) at 6, 3.5 and 4 K, respectively. No obvious magnetic hysteresis is found for all the samples at 2 K. Further AC susceptibility measurements demonstrate that the kink/splitting has a clear spin-glass behavior in both NiCu3(OH)6Cl2 and CoCu3(OH)6Cl2. This suggests that no long-range magnetic order develops down to 2 K in the new compounds featuring strong frustration. The finding of the novel spin-glass state will stimulate new understandings in the kagome magnets.
