A correlation diagram-periodogram analysis of the mean daily sunspot number, mean daily galactic cosmic-ray (GCR) intensity, and mean daily geomagnetic-activity index Ap is used to obtain cross-correlation coefficients as a function of frequency. Peaks are observed in the cross correlation functions at frequencies corresponding to periods T = 36, 27, 19, and 13 days. The heights of the peaks for T = 36 and 19 days are above the 95% confidence level. In contrast to mean power spectra, where frequencies corresponding to periods T = 27 and 19 days dominate, the frequency spectrum of the cross-correlation coefficient in the present case is dominated by frequencies T corresponding to T = 36 and 19 days. The authors suggest that these frequencies are caused by highly efficient transport of wave energy from below the photosphere into the solar chromosphere and corona by global Rossby waves.
