Scientific paper

The Cassini spacecraft will have two cameras which will be the most sophisticated ever to be sent to the outer planets. Using CCD technology and equipped with dedicated microprocessors, the wide-angle and narrow-angle cameras will send back at least 50,000 images of Saturn, its satellites and rings during the four year orbiting phase of the Cassini mission. The design of the camera system and some of the investigations to be carried out are described.
