An electric field generation mechanism in the atmosphere, formed by the joint action of friction and gravitational forces upon the charged aerosol particles captured into a convective cell is considered. It is shown that the electric field structure may be found by a self-consistent approach, taking into account the influence of the electric field upon the aerosol particle motion. Estimates of electric field amplitudes at different atmospheric heights are given.
