Spectroscopic and photometric observations at optical and ultraviolet wavelengths of dwarf novae through their outburst cycles were obtained. The observations indicate that: different dwarf novae have different outburst patterns, but different outbursts of the same dwarf nova are very similar; at the start of the outburst the optical flux rises before the ultraviolet flux; during the decline ultraviolet and optical fluxes drop simultaneously; the spectral flux distribution of Z Cam systems is the same during standstill as during the decline from an outburst at the same mv; an appreciable ultraviolet flux is present at quiescence. Implications of these results for models of accretion disks and of dwarf nova outbursts are discussed.
