Chakrabarty's (1984) mechanism for the linear electron-loss process in the middle D-region is investigated theoretically and shown to be incorrect. The incorrect conclusion is caused by using inadequate values of the parameters in analyzing the final equation at the 80-km altitude. Possible mechanisms for explaining the linear electron-loss process are discussed.
