The elliptical galaxy NGC4696 resides at the center of the Centaurus cluster of galaxies. Central cD galaxies such as NGC4696 contain a hot, X-ray emitting ISM at a temperature of roughly 1 keV. Plasmas at this temperature should be a rich source of bright X-ray emission lines resolvable by the HETG onboard Chandra. We plan to search for the presence of multiphase gas in the galaxy as well as study the enrichment history of the gas through line-based abundance measurements. In addition, a spatial analysis of the 0 order image will allow us to study the interactions between the central galaxy ISM and the surrouding cluster cooling flow as well as the spectral and spatial properties of the cooling flow itself.
