If the properties of neutrino magnetic moments have been extensively studied, the consequences of a non-vanishing charge radius have drawn little attention so far. The laboratory bounds are reviewed. They are fairly comparable to the constraints set by the cooling of red-giant stars. The relevance of anapole neutrinos to the explosion mechanism of massive stars is also discussed. As a matter of fact, if neutrinos have an anomalous charge radius, they can drag some fraction of the gravitational energy released during the collapse of a compact object. As they transfer it to the envelope of the supernova, neutrinos revitalize the stalled shock wave.
