Results of analysis of atmospheric noise data collected at Bangalore for one complete year are presented. It is observed that atmospheric noise appears in the burst form quite frequently at Bangalore. The noise levels show systematic variations between 12-20 hr I.S.T. The amplitude probability distributions for burst noise levels (expressed in dB) for 12-16 hr time block can be approximately represented by a single normal distribution. For 16-20 and 20-24 hr the distributions are heterogeneous. Analysis of the distributions for 20-24 hr is carried out on the basis of a physical criterion which groups different days in a season into two broad groups depending upon the time at which burst noise is first received. Probable interpretation for the criterion is given and significance of the analysis is discussed.
