It is shown that the energy characteristics that have been observed in plasma where the energy ranges from several eV to several hundred eV in the outer plasmasphere and plasma trough can be explained by the fact that the cold plasma of the plasmasphere is heated. The heating derives from the induced scattering of longitudinal ion-cyclotron waves on cold ions and from the Landau damping of oblique waves on thermal electrons.
