We consider a generalised Maxwell-Einstein system in a higher dimensional space-time such that the energy-momentum tensor is traceless. After reduction to four dimensions and setting the gauge fields equal to zero, we obtain the usual four dimensional Einstein-Hilbert term coupled to two scalar fields. One of them is a Brans-Dicke type scalar field with an inverted sign of the kinetic term. The obtained cosmological solutions are non-singular.
