We propose XMM-Newton EPIC observations of six luminous infrared galaxies, selected from the GOALS sample. The targets are selected based on the 2-7 keV flux measured with snapshot Chandra observations, aiming to study their hard X-ray spectra and Fe line properties with XMM-Newton. This proposed follow- up observations are essential to determine the AGN fraction in the nearby LIRG population by minimizing the bias against heavily obscured AGN which generally have faint hard X-ray emission and a large throughput of XMM-Newton is required to examine its nature.
