A wheeled planetary rover (WPR) testbed has been designed and is currently under construction. The testbed is equipped with mobility, navigation and control, and sample acquisition systems necessary to evaluate many aspects of planetary rover operations. A four-wheel, all-wheel drive system provides the WPR with a representative mobility capability that will allow for realistic planetary mission simulations. It will be capable of providing valuable insight into the strengths and weaknesses of several robotics technologies.
