The SC (sudden commencement) effect in VLF radiation associated with the arrival of solar-wind shock waves at the earth was observed simultaneously at three points. A possible source of VLF-radiation burst excitation is indicated: a packet of fast magnetoacoustic waves, which is either carried in by the solar wind or is generated inside the magnetosphere.
