Scientific paper

The present paper deals with the problem of geomagnetic field/solar wind interaction in the physics of the magnetosphere. The problem of the MHD-plasma flow past a sphere is analyzed for specified hydrodynamic characteristics of the flow, under the assumption that the magnetic field is completely frozen into the plasma. The Maxwell and 'freezing in' equations are used as a basis to obtain the magnetic field at the surface of the sphere and in the wake behind the sphere. Asymptotic formulas describing the behavior of the magnetic field near the sphere are derived.
