Observations of astrophysical jets reveal phenomena that are extremely complex. Our current understanding of jets involves theoretical models and numerical simulations that are very difficult to verify via direct observations. Laboratory experiments that can provide insights into the physics of jets would therefore be quite valuable. In this talk, we review briefly existing laboratory plasma experiments relevant to jets, and discuss in detail the prospects of creating kinetically relativistic plasma using particle accelerators to study aspects of relativistic jet dynamics that might help explain the observed spectra of radiation and high energy cosmic rays.
