We propose a pilot study to investigate the extent and inventory of the organic repository that resides in the Central Molecular Zone (CMZ) of the Galaxy. This is a unique region, with complex organic molecules distributed over 100pc-scales in the central part of the Galaxy, quite unlike the compact distribution of organics within GMCs elsewhere in the Galaxy. The advent of the wide-band correlator at Mopra, in conjunction with OTF-mapping, now make its possible to efficiently determine the distribution of a variety of molecular species. This pilot study is designed to utilise this new mode of operation to investigate the organic content of the central molecular zone, by examining both the distribution and content of molecular lines emitting between 81 and 98 GHz, at selected places within the region. This will allow us to address the question of what the physical environment is across the central molecular zone, as well as to ask what is causing this to occur and why is it so different to that of molecular cloud complexes? It will also determine the required scope for a future comprehensive survey of the organic repository of the CMZ.
