An analysis of optical phenomena in the earth atmosphere which took
place in the summer of 1908 is presented. It is suggested that the
origin of the phenomena may be explained both by the presence of a thick
field of noctilucent clouds, which was initiated by the Tungusk
explosion, and by volcanic activity in 1907-1908.
