The use of the inverted alt-alt configuration for optical telescopes appears to have a number of advantages in comparison to an employment of other configurations. However, it is pointed out that a feasibility study is needed to investigate further the merits of the new concept. By adopting this concept it would be possible to replace the expensive dome by a flat roof. Details regarding the inverted alt-alt configuration concept are considered, giving attention to the main structure, the drive systems, foci, ancillary equipment, and questions of building design and erection.
