The effect of large scale neutral air motions in the F2-layer is studied theoretically for special models by numerical methods (with production and loss of electrons) and by approximate methods (when production and loss are absent). The results show that generally neutral air transport towards the equator enchances the electron density at the peak, in agreement with theoretical results obtained at moderate latitudes. The work is also of interest in connexion with the theories of ion drag and of electrodynamic lifting of the F2-layer.
