I will highlight a number of ways that fluid dynamics impacts the observable behavior of white dwarfs and neutron stars, the compact remnants of stellar evolution. For cooling white dwarfs, an unresolved question is the amount of energy released due to gravitational sedimentation of heavy elements. This energy release slows down the cooling of the white dwarf, making it less reliable as a chronometer. I will close with some more speculative discussions on the relation between non-radial oscillations and active nuclear burning on accreting neutron stars.
