The paper presents evidence that the luminous blue variable AG Car is at a much greater distance than has been previously assumed in the literature. The variation of interstellar extinction with distance for stars in its direction shows that AG Car's distance is much greater than 2 to 2.5 kpc and consistent with a distance of 5 kpc or more. Its kinematic distance from its radial velocity and galactic rotation is 6.4 to 6.9 kpc. The derived parameters of AG Car are presented.
