Strong emission from the (0,1/1c/,0) J = 2-1 line in the circumstellar envelope of IRC+10216. This emission probably results from maser amplification was discovered. Observations of all J = 2-1 and J = 3-2 rotational transitions of the fundamental and two lowest-lying vibrational states of HCN in this source are presented. Suggestions are given for possible pumping mechanisms.
