A cloudy bag model, in which a meson cloud coupled to the quark-confining bag is introduced so that the chiral symmetry is conserved, is used to deduce the equation of state for strange matter. The bag constant and the mass of strange quark are determined self-consistently by comparing with the mass spectrum of hadrons. We find that the stellar parameters, e.g. masses and radii, of the cloudy bag strange stars are similar to those obtained from preious strange star models. However, in this model, strange star can cool rapidly by evaporating mesons. This is the key difference between our model and previous ones. Furthermore, this rapidly cooling mechanism may be one possible sources of gamma-ray bursts.
