Solar Activity Cycles: Forecasts

Scientific paper

The data of sunspots of 23 months (monthly mean values) during the ascending phases of the solar cycles 21, 22, 23 are analysed. The results indicate the existence of a north-south asymmetry of the sunspot distribution. The sunspot relative number and the sunspot area (average of 23 months) of the solar cycle 23 are higher than the solar cycle 22, but lower than the solar cycle 21. It is estimated that the peak year of the solar cycle 23 would be in March 2000 or December 1999.
