The radio noise data examined in the present paper were obtained with an onboard radio spectrograph operating at frequencies between 0.45 and 6.0 MHz. Radio noise was observed within three frequency ranges: at frequencies below the electron gyrofrequency; in the range between plasma frequency and the upper hybrid frequency; and at frequencies somewhat above the second harmonic of the gyrofrequency. Radio noise intensity was hardly affected by the time of day and the latitude. Radio noise was found to result from the interaction of 1 to 150 eV electron fluxes with the ionosphere, both during daytime and nighttime.
