Solar Wind: Alfven Waves

Scientific paper

During the propagation process of Alfvén waves in high-speed solar wind, Alfvén wave energy can be transferred into fast magnetosonic waves. When both magnetic field and Alfvén wave velocity approach zero, fast magnetosonic waves will be transferred into ion-acoustic waves. As the phase velocity of the ion-acoustic wave is slightly greater than the thermal velocity of protons, the turbulence energy of ion-acoustic waves can largely be absorbed by protons. Thus the mean temperature of protons is greater than that of electrons because of stochastic turbulence heating of ion-acoustic wave for protons.
