The gas-liner pinch-discharge apparatus described by Finken and Ackermann (1981) is employed to measure the spectral line shapes of the 3p-4d, 3d-4f, 4d-5f, and 4f-5g transitions of Li-like C IV and N V at density 7.7 x 10 to the 23rd/cu cm. The experimental setup and VUV detection system are described, and the results are presented in tables and graphs and characterized. It is found that, under these plasma conditions, a quasi-static approximation is required to treat the ion broadening at n = 5 (l greater than 1), with level mixing already detectable at n = 4; the well separated levels at n = 3 can be treated in the electron-impact approximation since the ion broadening is in the quadratic Stark regime.
