Data are presented which show that the diurnal variations of f0F2 and fE8 at middle latitudes in summer during sunspot minimum conditions are frequently very similar. Both variations are anomalous in that maxima occur near 08.00 and 20.00 L.M.T. with a minimum near 14.00 L.M.T. It is suggested that the peculiar diurnal behaviour may be partially explained by atmospheric winds.
