Measured values of the quantity G[nu]eff (where G is the energy loss factor for electron-molecule collisions and [nu]eff is the effective collision frequency) obtained for accurately known heights near 85 km by means of wave-interaction experiments are used to derive values of G. The appropriate values of [nu]eff are obtained from the survey paper published by and (1966). G is found to be 5·0 × 10-3 on average, this value being significantly greater than that used in the past by some wave-interaction experimenters in their derivations of collision frequency values.
