There is a growing body of evidence that small, impulsive solar energetic particle events provide an important reservoir of material that can be efficiently accelerated by shocks in the solar corona and inner heliosphere, as originally suggested by Mason and collaborators. The presence of 3He at energies ~10 MeV/nucleon is a good tracer of material from such events. Using data from the Solar Isotope Spectrometer (SIS) on the Advanced Composition Explorer (ACE) we examine the variation of the 3He energy spectrum between ~5 and ~15 MeV/nucleon from the solar minimum of 1997 through the current solar maximum conditions in 2001. This work was supported by NASA at Caltech (under grant NAG5-6912), JPL, and GSFC.
