On the basis of Killing vectors, a systematic method for solving
Bäcklund transformations of the Euler equation in the harmonic
mapping theory is presented. As an application, the Ernst equation for
stationary axisymmetrical gravitation is discussed, and the Ehler
transformation of that equation is obtained.
