The proposed Solar Sentinel Mission will have the capability to detect and measure solar neutrons below 10 MeV, a heretofore undetectable quantity. A novel neutron telescope design in development will be capable of making such measurements with great sensitivity that relies on the proximity of the spacecraft to the Sun and imaging-background reducing methods. We present laboratory estimates of the instrument sensitivity in the context of a deep space mission that are supported by detailed Monte Carlo simulations. One of the possible discoveries will be the detection of quiescent solar neutrons produced by postulated nanoflares. These nanoflares could be a significant agent for heating the solar corona. The mission's capability to detect and measure quiescent solar neutrons will be presented, including the necessary integration time at perihelion and the energy range that would first reveal itself.
