SN 2008 S is one of the most intriguing transient event discovered in the last years since its nature has not yet been established. We present our set of photometric and spectroscopic observations of this faint transient and our search for any progenitor star on the deepest pre-explosion optical and NIR images. The combination of our monitoring data and the evidence from the progenitor analysis suggests the scenario of a weak explosion, such as a electron capture SN(ECSN), within a thick circumstellar gasesous envelope.
