We determine, by means of a semi-empirical study, the masses of horizontal branch (HB) stars in the globular cluster M3 (NGC 5272). We used the most recent and reliable observational datasets available for the cluster, both for variable and nonvariable stars to infer the most likely masses of individual HB stars by comparison with theoretical evolutionary tracks. We found a mass distribution for M3's HB stars that is adequately described either by a somewhat skewed unimodal distribution or by a combination of two Gaussians. Neither of these distributions matches the shape that has been suggested as an explanation of the observed distribution of RR Lyrae pulsation periods in the cluster.
