Attempts to detect line emission from Comet Kohoutek (1973f) were carried out at several frequencies over the period from Dec. 2, 1973, to Jan. 12, 1974. Upper limits for antenna temperature of the 616-5 sub 23 line of H2O and the 85 alpha line of H imply that the rate of H2O production by Comet Kohoutek at a heliocentric distance of 0.3 AU was less than 6 x 10 to the 32nd molecules/sec/ster, and that the beam averaged electron density in the coma was less than 500,000 per cu cm. The H2O observations are consistent with a fluid-dynamic model of the coma and a nucleus of radius smaller than 42 km. Upper limits were also obtained for emission from ammonia and methylene cyanide.
