The response of the atmospheric electric field and the density of the vertical atmospheric current to intense solar flares is considered. Considering the example of three characteristic events, the paper describes differences in the response of atmospheric electricity to an intense isolated solar flare and to a series of such flares following with intervals of 1-3 days.
