CO2 altimetry data acquired with the Mars-5 spacecraft are used to study the relief of Mars along lineaments situated to the south of the Marineris Valles rift valley. Drops in height reaching 6 km were recorded on a baseline of 50 km (Claritas Fossae). It is found that the region of the Holden-Hale and Nirgal Vallis craters is an extended lowland.
