Integral equations that govern the radiative source function in a slab are investigated. Closed-form, approximate solutions, which were obtained by using an exponential kernel approximation, are presented. The resulting simple algebraic expressions predict, to within 10 percent, the exact solution over a wide range of optical parameters. They also provide the advantage of calculating with ease the radiative field within the medium.
