A relationship is established between the asymptotic (k tends to infinity) spectral index of idealized optically thin localized radiating sources, n(x,t), and their scans, f. For piecewise-constant (pc) clouds, if the envelope of the one-dimensional asymptotic spectrum of the power of n is proportional to k to the -2, then the asymptotic spectrum of the scan depends upon the character of the contour at point x sub 0 = (x sub 0, y sub 0) where it is tangent at an extremal ray. If the contour at (x sub 0) behaves like y - y sub 0 = gamma(x - x sub 0) to the tau power, than the asymptotic spectral envelope of the power spectral density (PSD) of the scan varies as k to the -2(tau+1). PSDs of clouds are related to the PSDs of their projection functions. Measured scans from two PLACES experiments are analyzed.
