The spectrometers aboard the Venera-9 and Venera-10 spacecraft orbiting Venus measured CO2 absorption bands around 2 microns in the upper part of the cloud layer of the planet. Some results are presented in the form of equivalent widths of the 2-micron band and brightness coefficients at 1.75 and 2.4 microns obtained near the limb, the center of the disk, and on the terminator. Photometric sections along the spacecraft paths are also given. The behavior of the absorption band with change in phase angle and the center-edge effect are in agreement with a scattering model, but not with a reflection model. The vertical profile of the cloud layer is characterized by a height scale of 3-5 km.
